Supporting Islands Impacted by Hurricane Irma & Maria
BlueFoot Travel support for islands impacted by Hurricane Irma.
We have all seen and heard the horrific news about the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma and Maria in Barbuda, Dominica St Barths, Saint Eustatius, Saba, Saint Martin and Sint Maarten, Anguilla and the British and US Virgin Islands. And also all the islands running up the chain to Florida.
Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by Irma and Maria.
BlueFoot Travel operates around the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Leeward and Windward Islands and we work with many of the wonderful islanders who live there. We are truly saddened by the destruction we have seen and the impact it has had on their lives.
Many islands throughout the Caribbean have not been impacted by the hurricane. And the best way to ensure this wonderful part of the world continues to grow and thrive is by carrying on with your existing travel plans to Antigua, St Kitts & Nevis, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & The Grenadines and Grenada.
For those that have been impacted, it is critical that we help them rebuild so they can start to operate as quickly as possible.
The Center for International Disaster Information, a part of the United States Agency for International Development has advised that sending money is almost always the most efficient way to help so that efforts can be coordinated. As BlueFoot Travel’s yacht Nemo is currently out of the water in Grenada – we are supporting the rebuild efforts through donations to the following official organizations.
- Anguilla and The British Virgin Islands – British Red Cross via Virgin Money
- Barbuda – Antigua & Barbuda Red Cross
- Dominica – Emergency Relief
- Dutch Islands – Sint Maarten – Dutch Red Cross (Aid Number 5125)
- French Islands – Saint-Martin & Saint Barths – Fondation de France
Should you also wish to contribute you can do so with the charities listed above.
Notice for Guests Booked on Crewed Yacht Charters with BlueFoot Travel
All our sailing trips in Grenada, Saint Vincent & The Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, and Antigua will be going ahead as normal.
We will continue to assess whether our sailing trips in and around Barbuda, Saint Barths, Saint Martin and Sint Maarten, Anguilla and The British Virgin Islands will continue as scheduled or be relocated to other islands. It is too soon to determine whether we would, in fact, be a burden on the impacted islands by visiting them or not. We are communicating directly with all guests who have booked sailing holidays with us.
