Further Reducing Plastic On Nemo

Support, Respect & Enjoy The Environment

18th September 2017

Continuing to Reduce Plastic on Nemo.

With the wind in your hair and the water lapping against the hull, you really do feel at one with the environment when you are at sea or anchored in paradise on Nemo.

Even more so if you are lucky enough to have a whale breaching on the horizon, dolphins joining you at the bow for some surfing, turtles munching on seagrass beds and pelicans bobbing in the shallows.

We wish to protect the environment as much as we can in the way we manage BlueFoot Travel. Plastic Reduction and Water Management are just two of the ways we are trying to do so.

Plastic Reduction

With at least 8 million tons of plastic waste entering our oceans every year*, we are doing as much as possible to reduce our own plastic waste.

  • We use island water that is filtered on board by carbon and particle filters instead of buying distilled water in plastic bottles.
  • We provide stainless steel water bottles from Simple Modern for all of our guests to use when on board – also saving our guests some packing space!
  • With over 550 million straws* thrown away in the UK and USA every day, we do not use plastic straws on board. We only use high-quality reusable silicone or paper straws.
  • We use reusable bags when doing our shopping.

Water Management

Caribbean countries have been implementing various measures to control the use of water as the region experiences a prolonged drought, in many islands, this includes water rationing.

During our cabin charters, we encourage sensible use of the water on board. We ask that water is not left running when washing up, cleaning, and showering. We have installed a water maker that converts seawater into potable water. We have also installed environmental showerheads to reduce the amount of water used during showering.

We will continue to find ways to reduce our impact on the environment. You can read more about how we are trying to protect the environment here.
